A.C.E. Project
The Achieving through Coaching and Education initiative, more commonly known as the A.C.E. Project is gaining momentum in its second year. The program, jointly constructed by USTA Eastern and Reach for College! provides opportunities for high school students by combining academics with tennis. The A.C.E. project is dedicated to promoting equity by increasing and supporting the number of traditionally disadvantaged students who pursue and complete post secondary education. Students participate in weekly after school college-prep courses and four hours of tennis per week. Nine schools participated in the project this year, including Hempstead High School in Hempstead, NY, Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, NY, Nottingham High School in Syracuse, NY, Proctor High School in Utica, NY, Ramapo High School in Ramapo, NY, Truman High School in Bronx, NY, Uniondale High School in Uniondale, NY and Malcom X. Shabazz High School and Weequahic High School both in Newark, NJ. The

program is currently serving over 20 students and this past spring the high school formed a boy’s tennis team for the first time in many years. USTA Eastern recognizes the hard work of the school’s coordinator; Adele Johnson.

USTA Eastern recognizes all 120 high school tennis coaches who implement a no-cut policy.
These coaches play a critical role in our sport by allowing young players the opportunity to be part of a team. They experience the greatest element of high school sports – the opportunity to participate on a team with their friends representing their school.
