The Tip: Hit the top half of a short high ball!
You should hit short high bouncing balls with topspin so that you can play it at chest or shoulder level, then hit down on it some what feeling that you are hitting the top half of the ball as you swing forward and slightly downward. Lowering your left shoulder so that the upper part of your body tilts towards the net will help you get the feeling of hitting the top half of the ball. Your forearm and racquet face will roll over a little at impact, causing the strings of the racquet to brush across the top of the ball putting some topspin on it.
Note everything would be the reverse for a lefty player.
