Eastern Juniors Finish Strong at Clay Courts

USTA Eastern juniors had a strong showing at the USTA National Clay Court Championships in July, winning awards for sportsmanship and outstanding play, and finishing as finalists in singles and doubles.
 
Mackenzie Clark (Bernardsville, NJ) won the sportsmanship award at the Girls’ 12 championships in Boca Raton, FL, while Vihar Shah (New Hyde Park, NY) and Win Smith (Brooklyn, NY) won Players of the Day awards at in the Boys’ 18s and 16s tournaments in Delray Beach, FL.
 
Jamie Loeb (Ossining, NY), who recently captured singles and doubles titles at the Sargent & Collins, LLP Women's $10,000 Championships, reached the finals in singles and doubles in the Girls’ 18s in Memphis, TN. In the Girls’ 14s in Plantation, FL, Gabby Pollner (White Plains, NY) reached the doubles final.

Additional Results from Clay Court Championships
 
Girls' 16s – Jessica Golovin (New York, NY) fought her way into the quarterfinals of singles. Madison Stevens (Mendham, NJ) and Arnelle Sullivan (Brooklyn, NY) teamed up and reached the quarterfinals in doubles.
 
Girls' 18s - Louisa Chirico (Harrison, NY) made a run to the quarterfinals in singles and then reached semifinals of back draw in singles. She was also a semifinalist in doubles.
 
Boys' 12s- Brian Shi (Jericho, NY) battled his way into the quarterfinals of singles and Steven Sun (Glen Cove, NY) made the finals of the west draw (consolation).
 
Boys' 14s – Mwendwa Mbithi (Succasunna, NY) came in third place beating out fellow Eastern player Matthew Gamble (Webster, NY) in straight sets. Both players were semifinalists.
 
Boys' 16s - William Blumberg (Greenwich, CT) reached the quarterfinals in singles, beating the #1 seed in straight sets.
 
Boys' 18s- Josh Levine (Syosset, NY) made the quarterfinals in singles. Richard Del Nunzio (Forest Hills, NY) and Josh Yablon (New York, NY) also had a strong showing by reaching quarterfinals in doubles.
